Imagine the distress of losing your beloved dog or cat. To enhance the chances of a safe return, consider microchipping.
Microchipping is a secure and lasting method to identify your pet should they become lost. A microchip, roughly the size and shape of a grain of rice, is inserted just beneath the loose skin at the back of the neck. If a lost pet is found without an ID tag, a veterinarian or veterinary technician will utilize a handheld microchip scanner to detect the chip. When the chip is scanned, it sends its ID number to the scanner using low-frequency radio waves. The veterinary clinic or shelter will then contact the manufacturer of the chip to obtain the pet owner’s information and reach out to them.
Even the most diligent pet owners cannot completely prevent their pets from getting lost. A leash might break or slip from your grasp, a pet could slip through a screen door or window, or a contractor or visitor might inadvertently leave a door or gate ajar.
We advise utilizing a microchip in conjunction with a collar and ID tag for your pet’s identification. An ID tag remains a dependable method of identification, as pets wearing tags with up-to-date contact details are less likely to find themselves in shelters and generally return home quicker than those without tags. However, collars and ID tags are not permanent and can be removed (during grooming or overnight); pets may also misplace them. With a microchip, your pet stands a significantly better chance of being identified and reunited with you. Pets lacking microchips that end up in shelters run the risk of being adopted by another family or, in unfortunate circumstances, being euthanized.
