If you choose to trim your bird’s nails at home, exercise caution. We recommend this only for smaller birds with white nails, as their color makes the blood vessels more visible. Additionally, it’s wise to have a caustic agent, like styptic powder, available in case of bleeding.

Using perches with rough textures can help minimize the need for nail trimming, but avoid sandpaper perches, as they do not effectively wear down the nails and may lead to skin issues.
