It is essential for your pet’s eye health to promptly identify and address glaucoma and other issues related to intraocular pressure (the pressure inside the eye). We can assess your dog or cat’s ocular pressure for any abnormalities using a tonometer, a non-invasive device that does not require sedation and is not painful.
Failure to treat glaucoma swiftly (within hours to days) can result in irreversible vision loss or blindness. If your pet has experienced any eye injuries, it is vital to have this test conducted. Additionally, we advise regular eye pressure evaluations for breeds predisposed to glaucoma to monitor and initiate treatment before severe damage occurs. Please contact us to find out if your pet is at an increased risk for developing glaucoma.
If you observe any of the following symptoms in your pet’s eyes—such as dilated pupils, a cloudy cornea (the normally clear surface of the eye), red or bloodshot eyes, one eye appearing larger or protruding compared to the other, squinting, or excessive tearing—please reach out to us immediately. Since glaucoma can be painful, your pet may exhibit behavior such as rubbing or pawing at their eyes or frequently pushing their head against furniture or the floor.
